Andhra Pradesh Tourism is launching a package tour to the Gandikota Fort which is located 77 kms from Kadappa,15 kms from Jammalamadugu and 280kms from Bangalore. Gandikota Fort is located on the banks of Pennar river. Gandikota is also known as "George Fort" & is believed to have been built during the latter half of 13th century A.D.Gandikota is also known as Grand Canyon of India. Within the Fort, there are many interesting places like Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple & Sri Madhavaraya Swamy temples built between the 15th & 16th centuries,with exquisite sculptures reflecting the architectural style of Vijayanagara period.The Jama Masjid,covering a huge area stands next to a large granary.A "Pigeon Tower" & richly decorated Palace are other attractions. From the top of the Fort,one can have a panoramic view of the breathtaking forests & valleys around.Nearby is the picturesque Mylavaram Dam, a popular spot for unwinding with lush trees & cool breeze.
Gandikota was the capital of Pemmasani Nayakas for more than 300 years.Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayudu constructed the huge fort of Gandikota with 101 Towers replacing the previous sand fort. Gandikota was founded in 1123 by Kapa Raja of nearby Bommanapalle village.
