Padi Igguthappa Temple, dedicated to Lord Igguthappa, is the presiding diety of Kodavas & Kul Devta of Kodagu or Coorg.In ancient times,He was god of rain & Crop.The crop being the basic survival of humans and rain for the survival of crops,the first crop of paddy is offered to the diety every year by farmers.After this, the harvest festival called Puttari officially begins in the Coorg region.
The main diety of Igguthappa temple is Subramanya or Karthik who is considered as son of Shiva and Kaveri Amman,considered as an avtar of Gauri.The temple houses the Murtis of Shiva & Igguthappa.In this region,the river Kaveri is Kaveri Amma,the omni present diety of Coorg and its people.The temple is located just 10 kms from Madikeri city in the town of Kakkabe & is easily reachable by road.
